|Day 1 Porto - Peso da
through the Douro Valley will begin with a cruise departing from Porto.
Today, we will head to the town of Peso da Régua. On board, we
will try a hearty breakfast alongside the riverbanks of Porto and Vila
Nova de Gaia. During the cruise, we will admire the incredible natural
landscapes and two magnificent dams: the Crestuma-Lever Dam (sluice
rises 14m) and Carrapatelo Dam (sluice rises 35m). And this last dam is
superb: it has the largest floodgate in Europe. We will also enjoy a
delicious lunch on board.
In the afternoon, we will reach the town of Peso da Régua,
the heart of the Douro Valley. Here our the guide will give us a warm
welcome and we will visit one of the most famous wineries in the
Region, where we will learn more about the wine production, enjoy
amazing views and taste the delicious and unique Port Wine. Then, our
guide will transfer you to the Hotel. Dinner at the Hotel and
accommodation in Douro Valley.
Day 2 Lamego - Ucanha
Today we will
visit the city of Lamego - the cultural capital
of Douro Region. An overview to Lamego immediately tells us that this
is a small town but elegant, historic and very charming city. The tour
with start at the monumental Shrine of Nossa Senhora dos
Remédios. Located in the center of the city, it’s one of
important places of pilgrimage in the country. Built on a hill, this
sanctuary offers a sublime view over the city. For the energic
travelers of our group, they can choose walk down its staircase. The
others, can go by bus. At the end of this visit, you will have the
opportunity to taste the famous “Secrets of Lamego”,
typical cheeses, bôla
(bread with meat) and Douro wine.
You will continue the trip through the main avenue of Lamego and you
achieve the Cathedral, with noble and magnificent cloisters. The
morning will end with a transfer to the village of Ucanha where you
have a lunch in a typical restaurant of the Region. Nearby it stays the
medieval fortress-bridge built in 12th Century
In the afternoon, you will visit the St. John of Tarouca Monastery, the
first Cistercian monastery in Portugal. This trip will end with a
transfer to the Hotel and a typical dinner from Douro Region.
Day 3 Pinhão / Favaios / Porto
On the last day of this tour, you will proceed exploring the best
places of Douro Valley.
The sublime village of Pinhão will be waiting for us. Overview
of the village, the bridge and the Railway Station stand out. Here, you
will enjoy a 1-hour lovely cruise from Pinhão to Romaneira (and
return to Pinhão) through inaccessible landscapes by car. This
cruise is performed in a traditional rabelo
boat (the old and typical
boat of the Douro River).
After this marvelous journey, you will head another famous winery that
produces the delicious and renowned Muscat Wine. It has incredible
gardens and its people will receive us with music and a warm smile. And
after a wine tasting of a velvety Muscat of Favaios (with the support
and knowledge of its winemakers), you will have for the lunch an
authentic and ancient dish from this area: a typical meal cooked in old
style iron pots.
Later a tour through one of the oldest demarcated wine region in the
whole world, and you will travel back to the city of Porto.
